Tithe Yourself

Someone told me this awhile ago and it always stuck with me… “Pay yourself a tithe”. When I first began personal trainer (getting paid for it, that is), a friend on mine that I really looked up to said, “Girl, give yourself 20% of everything you make.” My first thought was “It’s all mine anyhow.” But then it sunk in. Once it did, I found myself with $200 and $300 dollars in a jar not realizing it was accumulating so much. I must honestly say, I’ve strayed away from this wonderful concept… BUT I’m getting back to it. :0)

So what does this have to do with it being a cold and wet Wednesday? Glad you asked. Two things: 1. I feel it very important to HONOR ourselves. It seems to me that we are not praising ourselves, yes I said Praising… ourselves enough. Do we really realize who we are? I think not. We are literally walking miracles (think about that)… there will never be and has never been another YOU. 2. This “tithe money” is only for you! Not the kids, the bills, the whatever (yes even in this recession). This money is for an hour massage, a mani-pedi, a session with your therapist, an acupuncture session… the things that we all need to keep us aligned with our purpose.

This tithe is to help the temple of God function at its highest level. Doesn’t that sound familiar?

Start today, even if it’s just $1. Set aside for your praise and worship. I know I’m stretching the perimeters of our minds… but just go with me here.

MUAH! It's HUMP DAY … let’s push through! :0)

  5. So funny...I always tell my husband when he complains about me spreading myself too thin, that we don't have enough money to tithe to the church, so I tithe myself! Maybe I need to tithe "myself" to myself now and then!!!

  6. I like the idea but, I love giving my FIRST 10% to God than that leaves me 90% for everything else! There is ALWAYS enough for God, do it first! Happy Day to you too! God Bless!

  8. I get the idea behind what you're saying, and I agree with you to an extent. The problem that I have is that you act like we deserve all these great things. As a Christian, I believe that we deserve nothing but eternal punishment. "None is righteous, no, not one." (Romans 3:10)
We can all learn something from Paul in Philippians 4:11-13: "Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me."
I really do love you Megan and enjoy your blog. Just had to share my thoughts on this :)

  10. Thank you so much...we need the perimeters of our minds stretched because we can get stuck in a dead end toxic mindset and not even know we are there...life can become mundane, routine and before you know it "self loathing"
And I am a christian that looks to the Lord for all my needs but I sometimes get stuck and need to feel deserved.

  11. You are right, Megan, there are a lot of young women (and even a few more "seasoned" women) out there who don't realize their great worth. Lack of good parenting, neglect, or maybe even abuse will wear down anyone's self-esteem and a sense of having value. And even those who had a "good" upbringing still seem to lack confidence in who they are. But whatever the reason, there is a great need among women for being affirmed. I believe in a great and mighty God who did, in fact, create each of us - all different from one another..."fearfully and wonderfully made." Our value begins with that fact, and follows with the fact that we were bought and paid for with a great price - the blood of Jesus Christ. We are very valuable! God said so! Being good stewards of our bodies, minds and souls is so important if we're going to be a healthy manifestation of the goodness of God toward us. It is good and right that we use a portion of our resources to take care of ourselves, and stay refreshed and uplifted. Doing that is not what gives us value - God already did that! And that face, alone, requires that we value (Praise, you called it) ourselves. So to all you young women reading this...thank God for how much he loves and values you...then, be the best YOU that you can be! Exercise, learn how to eat better, drink lots of water....and for those of you over 21, raise a glass of wine with family and friends, just for the sheer joy of it. Megan...I watch the weather video about the week off for snow in ATL (MLK week - lol) almost every day. It makes me laugh more and more every time I see it. I look forward to seeing how God will use you in the life of young women who might need some encouragement. God bless you! Judy

  13. Megan that is lovely thinking. I just empty the change from my pocketbook (that word dates me) into a jar and at the end of a month or two or whenever I want something special I have a little extra. The Lord made us in his image and sometimes I really don't feel that any of us truly know how individually special we really are....no two alike not even twins and.....most of us do slip along the way and don't take care of US like we should. You have to love yourself no matter what society says about our flaws GOD makes no mistakes ....we are ALL beautiful and I don't mean that in a vain kinda way.
Like Jason Crabb sings "you don't have to walk on water its how you walk on land."
Enjoy you everyday dear! You certainly bring a bright light to a lot of lives. That is a good thing. Thank you for reminding us WHO we are.

  14. OMG! These comments are off the chain!!!!!!!!!!!! We should just have a "get together" and talk about this. OMG I'm literally floored! As I said on FB, this blog is about YOU! And however you interpret it... it' still on YOU!

  15. I am setting aside $10/day for "whatever comes up." Money that would have been spent on nothing-ness. You have inspired me with your words. Thank you!

  16. Thanks for this!! I may not be able to manage much right now but I love, love, LOVE the idea of trying! and however much or little we can put aside in a jar, it's nice to be reminded that it's ok to do things for ourselves
