Listen to them

As I was speaking this morning at the Freedom Middle School… I realized just how much our kids need us- not just to take care of them, but to show them (by example), talk with them, respect them, and LISTEN to them. They watch our every move just to see how much integrity we have. They want us to be honest about what’s going on in our lives (not that you tell your kids everything), and reflect how we really feel.

See children can sense when something isn’t right, regardless of how much we try to mask it – they know and they can feel it. So the more we try to hide it the less they trust us. This is why, I’ll say it again, it’s so important to take the time out to nurture ourselves, because when we’re not right, nothing is. We can be more attentive to the needs of others when our needs have been met – or at the very least, acknowledged.
We are the babies first Life Coaches :0). I believe the only way to guide them is not by always telling them what to do, but by showing them how to do it. I noticed there were quite a few kids there that were overweight. This is what’s going on in this country so I wasn’t surprised. But this is one of those examples I’m speaking of. We must show our kids a better way of living, by the choices they see us making.

I had a blast today!

Love ya’ll MUAH

  1. I concur. When I was diagnosed with cancer 7 mths ago, I shared it with my 16 year old. I have always spoken candidly with him.

Being transparent with your children and others is paramount to establishing and maintaining relationships.

    Thanks for being transparent Megan.

  2. It is unfortunate that our society has a a growing epidemic of childhood obesity, which is inducive of a lot of juvenile diabetes I would venture to say (Im no expert). I saw an unsual site the other day-children outside playing!! It is very sad not to see this anymore.

The best thing for parents,Aunts and Uncles, siblings..what have you, can do for our babies is practice what you preach! You don't want your kids lying, stealing, cheating...etc... then live a virtuous life as an example to your children. Even if we think they aren't watching...somebody is.
Thanks Megan, what a bunch of lucky students in Atlanta GA today : )

  3. Hey Megan. Glad to see that you were out with the young ones today. Is this the school you were snowed away from? Lol. I agree 100% with you. If we are not taking care of our young ones by living/leading by example, they will not have a chance. I don't have any children of my own, but I try to be an example to any child that crosses my path. Unfortunately, I work with mothers as young as 12 (need I say more), but I continue the encouragement because we cannot give up. You are such the inspiration and I feel like you were put in my path for a reason as I try to figure out what the next step is for me is.

  4. You are so right......Listening is so much better than talking.......and then we need to hear what they are trying to tell us when they reach out......

  5. @Arbysag I'm so proud you and am inspired by your journey. Thank you for sharing. @Heidi you are so right! The example counts. @Michelle, I don't have children either, but "it takes a village to raise a child." @Betty YES YES!
